Part Two- Jodie Elleanor

Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Hair and Make Up Artist

A blog series introducing you to some of my favourite suppliers in the wedding industry. They will be telling you a little bit about themselves and offering some pearls of wisdom for planning your wedding day.

Jodie is an exceptionally talented hair and makeup artist based in Buckinghamshire. I have had the great privilege of working with her several times. Her knowledge and all-round chitchat is second to none.

Over to you Jodie…..

Introduce yourself

and tell us more about what makes you you!

Hi, I’m Jodie Elleanor

I’ve been a hair and makeup artist for the last 6 years and I absolutely eat, sleep, breath everything hair and makeup!

I came from an accounting background so I really believe anyone can follow their dreams! My supportive, now husband, helped my dream become a reality and I will forever be grateful to him.

Life is so short, follow your dreams and always keep learning.

Experience In The Wedding Industry

I started my business when I was pregnant with my beautiful daughter Darcey, it’s actually a funny story. My sister in law told her friend I would do her wedding makeup - however at that point I wasn’t a makeup artist, I had never done someone else’s makeup and I had no idea what I was doing but crazily I said yes! I fell in love with doing makeup, put the pictures on Facebook and my business suddenly blew up! I always look back at those photos to see how far I’ve come.

I added on hair to my business a year later

I now do around 65/70 weddings a year which is just crazy to me.

Top Tip

Always book suppliers that you vibe with. You’re sharing the most special day of your life with them and you want to have a good, fun, working relationship with them. You need to feel that they understand you and what you’re going for.

Where did you get married?

I got married at Dorton House, a very underused venue. It’s incredible with amazing grounds and rooms. Each part of the venue has a different room for your sit down meal, bar and dance floor and that totally sold it to us. For me I was so lucky to know exactly which suppliers I wanted on my wedding day. I’ve worked with them all since I started hair and makeup and I’ve always said to them when I get married you will be there with me, and what an incredible job they did.

Top Tip

Don’t be afraid to speak up if you don’t quite like something. We can’t read your mind and the trial is the perfect time to spend lots of time together to perfect the look! The look you might of liked in a photo you might not actually like on yourself when it’s done.

I don’t set time limits for my trials we create until it’s perfect.

When did you know you definitely wanted to be a hair and make up artist?

After my first wedding I started to build my business along side my accountancy job, but the more bookings that came in and the more weddings I did I lost the love for accountancy and needed to do hair and makeup full time.

When my boss at work asked me if I wanted to go chartered I laughed, more out of fear! I didn’t want to be an accountant anymore! 2 weeks later I handed in my notice and they were so supportive.

Top Tip

Get a really good Pinterest board going for hair and makeup looks you like and before the trial send it over.

I can advise if we need any extras before the trial such as extensions as I always get brides to send over a picture of their hair. There is nothing worse then getting to a trial and not being about to have the look you want because your hair isn’t quite full enough.

What part of your work makes you all toastie inside?

I would say making people look and feel their absolute best! There is no better feeling when they look in the mirror and absolutely love what they see.

One thing I really love is that I can do both hair and makeup. Not only does this make me stand out from a lot of others but I get to create the whole look for their wedding day!

What is your favourite wedding theme?

My favourite wedding theme would have to be the theme I had for my own wedding. I got married last August and it was just perfect.

Everything was green and white, very elegant and stylish. Lots of flowers

It was perfect!

Have fun when planning your wedding day, it’s going to be the best day of your life.

I absolutely love glamming up each and every bride and remember if you have any worries suppliers are always their to help you! No question is too small!

Do You Have A Favourite Wedding Venue?

I actually have 2 wedding venues I love my own which is Dorton House, it was perfection. After my wedding I visited Hedsor House and the room you get ready in was just out of this world! The lighting is incredible and the room where you stay in just beautiful.

Where would you love to work one day?

I would love to work at Ashridge House one day, do a big shoot! That would be really fun as it’s so stunning there. I always go on to their website and have a little look around. It’s beautiful.

Which are your favourite makeup brands?

My kit is absolutely massive, I buy too much makeup but I would say my top 5 favourite brands

- Nars

- Fenty

- Younique

- Too Faced

- Hour Glass

A massive thank you to the lovely Jodie for being part of this blog series!
